Butch began carving in 1993 as a self- taught carver, who is well known in the Chattanooga TN. area for his many styles of carvings.  He has enhanced his self-taught style by hosting and attending seminars taught by  professional carvers including Vic Hood, Gary Falin, Wayne Shinlever, Helen Gibson and Christopher White.  Butch is well known for his Santa carvings which are influenced by his many instructors.  He is a member of the Chattanooga WoodCarvers Club and the Walden CarversGroup.  He lends his knowledge and experience in teaching others within both of these groups.  He enjoys carving most often in basswood, butternut, cottonwood bark and black walnut.  Butch also enjoys carving caricatures, hiking sticks, wood spirits, walking canes, Native Americans, Christmas ornaments and abstract carving.
